Darrell’s Weekly Wrap 14/06/2020

The Wednesday golf continued to attract a good field last week and the good field returned some pretty strong scores. A three way countback was needed to separate Richard Cannon, from the consistent Tony Duff and Coffs Harbour visitor Jeff Porter. They each had 39 points. Next best was Tiger Clutterbuck, Bruce the Gnome and Neil Free who all had 37. Crewy Cameron won the NTP on the 9th.

The Thursday veterans saw Mike Petrov return to the winners circle after a countback with Michael Welbourn. MacLean visitor Terry Mitchell was third and Margaret Macready was the best of the ladies.

Now Popeye Whiting who is full of sad stories about always getting beat when it comes to countbacks or just getting pipped by a shot has another hard luck story after Thursday. It seems that Tony, who was approximately 200 metres from the green, when playing the 16th, hit a sensational shot to finish about 3 metres from the pin. Sadly he then realised that he had hit Bronnie Wilson’s ball, and whilst Tony was really pissed off Bronnie commented that it was her first time she had ever been on the 16th for 3 shots and wan ted to putt out from there.

Deb Douglas was the sponsor for the Ian Douglas memorial 4BBB and the day attracted a very good field for this medley event. The winners of the day were Carol Shields and Aaron Whackett with 45 points. Bruce the Gnome (McMullen) and Neil Free took second spot on a countback from Jason Barraclough and David Carlon.

Coleen Taggart obviously returned to form as she and the Big Bird Sparra were next best and there is no way Sparra could get to 43 points without a lot of help. Just like the Dragons need a lot of help to win a game in the NRL.

The NTP winners on the day were, RAB 3rd Jason Brady, NAB 9th Tim Bower, Rob Brown Denture Clinic 15th John (The Cocky Hater) Holman and Bridges Finance 17th Graeme Andrews.

I would like to mention again the club’s AGM at 10 am on Sunday 28th June. At this stage we still require one more nomination so please give it serious consideration. We will be able to accept nominations from the floor at the meeting but would be simpler to have everything in place before the meeting.

Quote of the week: The biggest troublemaker you will ever have to deal with watches you from the mirror every morning.

Good Golfing
