Darrell’s Weekly Wrap November 4th 2018

Richard Cannon returned to the winners circle last Wednesday and his 40 points made him a narrow winner over Tony (Popeye) Whiting 39 after a countback with Crewy Cameron. Popeye also won the NTP on the 3rd.

I don’t know the full story but I hear that Trevor Wilson caused a bit of a giggle on Wednesday. It seems that his three playing partners arrived to the green ahead of Trevor and were standing around talking; one of them had taken the pin from the hole in anticipation of Trevor putting. When Trevor did putt he assumed that the pin was in the hole and putted towards it. Now we all know that Trevor is not the club’s best putter and on this occasion he was actually putting in the wrong direction.

It is pretty tough Trevor when you’re playing partners do that to you. I suppose we should not assume anything as “assume” makes an ass out of you and me.

The Thursday Vets competition attracted another good field and the Big Bird himself Doug Taggart, won the day with 39 points from Mike Petrov and Jack Mitchell both 37. Sparra might not be able to drive a bus but he can play golf.

Tony Williams Machinery was the sponsor for Saturday’s stableford and the day attracted a very good field. Kirin Walters won with 41 points but only narrowly over Neil Cullen, 40 and Bruce the Gnome 39. Coffs Harbour visitor and former local Jeff Porter took home the mars bar.

NTP winners were, RAB 3rd Bruce McMullen, 9th Coleen Taggart, 11th K-Mart Northam, another visitor Graeme Fillipe  the Rob Brown Denture Clinic 15th and Darrell Carson the Bridges finance 17th.

Obviously overjoyed at winning the NTP on the 11th K-Mart got to the next par 3, 15th and so exited was he that he teed it up and played from the ladies tee. He promises next week if he is going to do that again he will wear a skirt. The best story of the day however belongs to Tony Duff.

Tony lives in Armidale and on arriving at the club he could not find his golf shoes so quickly raced back to Armidale to grab them, but guess what after getting to Armidale he suddenly realized that the shoes were already on his feet, so back to Uralla he came.

Quote of the week: “Do not learn the tricks of the trade-learn the trade.”

Good Golfing.
