Darrell’s Weekly Wrap February 4th 2018

I am back doing my report after a very pleasant Xmas , New Year break. I know my old mate Les Forde has been going through a bit of a bad time on the course but when he heard I was starting this report again he is straight back into form. Last Wednesday he had a great 41 points which means an 85 off the stick.

Les Managed to relegate the consistent Crewy Cameron to second place after a countback, whilst Tiger Clutterbuck and Richard Cannon both had 39 points. John Holman won the NTP on the 9th and I think  Dom Plummer won the ORANGE ball for next week.

The first round of the Veteran’s pennants was held at Uralla on Thursday and a great field of 113 players took part.

Local, Rowan  (Chalkie) Chandler took the main prize with his best ever round of 45 points, (74 off the stick). Well done Chalkie and I’m sure it counted greatly to Uralla being joint leaders in this 5 match competition. Ed Wright, 43 and John Hanson 42, both from Armidale, filled the minor placings. This was a great day for the club and I should mention that both Les Forde and John Holthouse managed to break their age. Congratulations old guys on your continuing efforts.

Saturday we played for the Jon Izzard trophy and Josh Clark won with 41 points. Josh has been in the winner’s circle a couple of times recently so hopefully the handicapper will get hold of him soon. Garry Mackaway took second with 39, Mike Petrov and Neil Bullen both had 38 to fill the minor placings.

NTP winners were, RAB 3rd Oscar Ayre, NAB 6th Vern Christensen, (visiting from Boonah), Vern also won the Rob Brown Denture Clinic 15th, Peter Richardson 9th and Jon Izzard the Bridges Finance 17th.

The club this week welcomed a new caterer, Tina Gibson and with daughter Ruby they had a lot of very satisfied customers on their first night. Reports were very good and we are looking for a long and mutually rewarding association with Tina.

I am not aware of any comp golf on Sunday but if there was I will try to bring the results next week.

Quote of the week.  “in spite of the cost of living it’s still very popular”.

Good Golfing .
