The usual strong field turned out for golf last Wednesday and some good scores were again the order of the day. Best of all was Ross Anderson who had 41 points from Ian Bohn (Gailes Golf Club) 39 after a countback with John Holthouse. Ryan Kelso was next best with 38.
The veterans this week did not play on Thursday but held their open on Friday and the day attracted the best vet’s field I can remember with 113 players hitting off. The prize winners were many and I will endeavor to cover everybody.
Ladies winner was Carol Shields with 42 points from Sue Partridge 39 and Kerry Bull 38. The ball competition went down to 33 pts. Men’s winners were, A Grade Barry (Crewy Cameron) 39 from Geoff Wood 38 with Shane Barraclough third with 37.
B Grade Jeff Porter (Coffs Harbour) 38 after a countback with Jim Walkinshaw 38 and Walcha’s Col Berry third with 37. C Grade winner was John Hillard (Glen Innes) with a massive 44 points from Jack O’Hara and Roy Mathews, both with 38.
NTP winners were Ladies 6th Jenny Lisle, 15th Julie Presnell and 17th Shirley Bruce. Whilst for the men it was 3rd Dick Hodgson, 6th David McDonald 9th Brian Lanz, 11th Ross Schalk, 15th Dactyl Carlon and 17th Bill Fletcher.
Saturday saw the Central North District Golf Association Open Mixed held in conjunction with the Uralla Open Mixed and the day attracted 64 players. The scratch winners and Open Champions were Craig Hyde and Amanda Carr (Armidale) with +2 from Tim Murray (Armidale) and Courteney Dade with Square.
Nett winners with +10 after a countback were Reg Walls (Glen Innes) and Rose Baumer (Walcha). Second spot after the countback were Wally Simmonds (Werris Creek) and Aoife O’Nolan. Les Forde and Sally Burraston were third with +9.
NTP winners were; Ladies 3rd Amanda Carr, 6th Julie Hoad, 9th Kerry Smith, 11th Cheryl McDonald, 15th Simone Sweeney, 17th Mary Dufty. The men were 3rd Geoff Wood, 6th Anthony Connors, 9th Reg Walls, 11th A Ruttley, 15th Tim Murray and 17th Jon Izzard.
The Uralla Open 4BBB was held on Sunday and Walcha Club had a very successful day with the winners being Jack O’Hara and Deon Lawrence with +10 taking the major prize. Anthony Uren and Andrew Crawford were second +9. Troy Dawson (Bundarra) and Peter Richardson (Armidale) were next with +8. Local combination, Ross Anderson and John Holman +8 and 5th spot to Simon Cross and Col Berry (also Walcha)
Scratch winners were Trevor Carson and Craig Hyde with +2 after a countback with Neil Bullen and Tim Murray (Armidale)
NTP winners were 3rd Trevor Carson, 6th John Holman, 9th and 17th Troy Dawson, 11th Tim Murray and the 15th Crewy Cameron.
Overall it was a very successful weekend for the club and on behalf of the members I would like to thank all the sponsors and all the helpers that make this type of weekend possible. The course is ever improving and the feedback from the visitors was very promising.
