Another beautiful day at Uralla saw a good field hit off in the regular Wednesday Wackers competition and good scores were the order of the day. The inform Dan Riley had45 points to follow up on his 49 last week to be a clear winner. Tony Duff had his best score for some time to take second spot with 40 points but only after a countback was required to separate him and Neil Free. The NTP on the 11th finally went off when Darrell Carson managed to hit the green.
An open 4BBB vet’s event was held on Thursday with the Wednesday Wackers supplying the trophies and whilst is was a beaut day the field was a little disappointing even though we attracted players from Sawtell , Dorrigo, Walcha and Armidale. Peter Dixon and Tony (Popeye) Whiting won the day with 45 points after a countback from Les (I’m in a hurry ) Forde and John Holthouse. Geoff Wood and Dactyl Carlon took third with 44 after another countback from Dorrigo combination, John Voight and Steve Pitkin.
NTP winners were, 3rd Chick (Go the Dragons) Chappell, 6th Dactyl Carlon, 9th Geoff Wood, 11th Crewy Cameron, 15th Chalkie Chandler and 17th Gary Mackaway.
The beautiful days continued on Saturday and we played a 4BBB for the Dactyl Carlon and Tiger Clutterbuck trophy and a couple of our junior girls showed how it should be done and returned a score of + 10 to relegate two men’s teams to second and third spot. Kirin Walters and K- Mart had +8 to claim second after a countback with Chalkie and Sparra.
NTP winners on the day were RAB 3rd, RAB 6th,and the 9th were all won by Robber Porter. Rob Brown’s Denture Clinic 15th Bruce the Gnome and the Bridges Finance 17th Kirin Walters.
Any regular readers of this report will know that I often praise Colleen as the best golfer in the Taggart family but I must confess that on Saturday the Big Bird himself played like a man possessed and surely at least last Saturday he was the best golfer in the family. (Colleen has a broken arm) so Sparra you played better than you can and congratulations on that but make sure you check your handicap before playing again.
Also regular readers will know about the efforts of Tiger and his big hitting history. (Claims he was New England Long Drive champion a couple of years back), well on the 12th on Saturday he failed to get it off the end of the tee, and of course had to buy a round of drinks for the boys he was playing with. He claims it takes a special skill to swing the driver at well over 100 kph and only move the ball 300 millimetres.
Carol Shields and Noelene Porter as well as Vicki Barraclough and Delphine Faulkner will represent Uralla at the district playoff of the state wide 4BBB in Tamworth a little later in the year.
Next weekend will see Steve Bishop, House of Golf Coffs Harbour will sponsor Saturday’s gold and on Sunday Steve will run a junior clinic as well as help any seniors that think they might need a lesson. Steve will have a wide range of golf gear available for sale with him to be sure to have a look and see what you might need.
