Darrell’s Weekly Wrap 24/02/2019

Well he has done it again, Les (I’m in a hurry) Forde I mean. Breaking his age is commonplace these days and last Wednesday Les had 86 to return 39 points and claim the major prize. Armidale visitor Lindsay Wittig was next best with 38 and Oscar Ayre won the NTP on the 11th. Chalkie Chandler will play with the orange ball next week.

The Thursday vets event saw another of our senior golfers shoot his age to win the day. John Holthouse (a young fella according to Les) had an 86 off the stick and 39 points to be a clear winner. Michael Petrov took second place with 35 points. Bronnie Wilson was the best of the ladies.

Saturday’s Geoff Wood sponsored Guzzlers Mug attracted a good field and Neil Free was far too good for the rest of the field. Neil had a nett 63 to be a five shot winner from Captain Jon Izzard, Tony Duff and Barry Cameron who all had 68 nett with Jon getting the second place honours after a countback.

NTP winners were; RAB 3rd not won, NAB 6th Tim Bower, 9th Tiger Clutterbuck, Rob Brown’s Denture Clinic 15th Ross Anderson and the Bridges Finance 17 Dactyl Carlon.

The annual Junior Tournament was held on Sunday and many of the district clubs were represented, including Inverell, Moree, Tamworth, Armidale The Longyard as well as Uralla of course. The results are many so I shall just name the winners.

Event A 5 hole girls, Shy Dodd Uralla. Event B  9 Hole Girls  Micky Dodd. 9 Hole Boys Flynn Holland Tamworth. Event C 18 hole girls Courtney Dade from Mia Clark, both Uralla and 18 hole boys Lang Toakley, Armidale  was the nett winner and Matt Reece Inverell won the gross. Congratulations to all the players that took part and a big thank you to Bruce McMullen and Jon  Izzard who manage the junior events and program at Uralla.

Once again I mention the 100 hear celebration weekend which is fast approaching, the weekend of March 22,23,24 will see a welcome Bar-B-Q on Friday evening, Golf Saturday and Sunday and off course the Saturday evening celebration dinner. Breakfast will also be provided on Sunday morning. Please get your names on the nomination sheets on the notice board at the club ASAP.

Next weekend will see the first two rounds of the club championships followed by the last two rounds the following weekend. Good luck to all who play. Once again the nomination sheet is in the club house but entries will be accepted up until hit off time.

Quote of the week: “The shifts of fortune test the reliability of friends”.

Good Golfing
