Uralla Golf Club Report
This week we were greeted by a couple of beautiful winter’s days and some good score were returned.
Robbie Porter had a 3 under par 67 off the stick to win on Wednesday and he must now be very close to a scratch handicap. Robbie will be the first Uralla player to hold a scratch handicap for at least the last 15 years maybe longer. Keep up the good form Robbie. Chalkie Chandler was second with 39 and evergreen Les (I’m in a hurry) Forde was next best with 38 after a countback with Dan Riley.
The Thursday Vet’s stableford again saw the ladies fill two of the top three places. Keeping things in the Porter family, this time Noelene (Robbie’s mum) won with 38 points from Mike Petrov 36 and Judy Marshall 3rd with 34. The holiday obviously did Mike a lot of good as he has finished in the prizes each time he has played since his return.
Judy Marshall also won the NTP on the 15th.
Duncan McLean was a clear winner of the Les Forde sponsored stableford on Saturday with an amazing 44 points. Trevor (Fairweather) Wilson had 40 which would normally win to claim second spot from Simon Wood 38.
NTP winners were RAB 3rd Mike Petrov, NAB 6th Ross Anderson, 9th Neil Cullen, 11th Chris Pears, Rob Brown Denture Clinic 15th Kerrin Walters and the Bridges Finance 17th the old fella himself Les (I’m in a Hurry) Forde.
There was one item worthy of mention that came out of Saturday Golf. Les who is always in a hurry heard his name called to the first tee in the first group and quickly hit one down the fairway. He then realized that his playing partners were not all there. One of them, who should remain nameless, but won’t will he Moon had left his golf sticks at home and Les had to then wait until the last group to play.
I think this would be a first that the first player to hit off for the day managed to finish in the last group. I wonder if this incident took the smile off his face.
As some of you will realize I often play in Armidale as well as Uralla and I was playing with “GOGS” the other day and he showed me something that I did not thing I would ever see. Hitting of the 15th tee His shot finished in the bunker adjacent to the 14th green. This is almost impossible but he managed it.
I should mention that there will not be a report next week as I am away for a few days.
Quote of the week. ”Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you like.”
