What a sad and tough week for the members of the golf club and the whole township of Uralla. As mentioned last week we lost Kevin Ward then just a couple of days later we lost Ron (Chicky) Chappell. Both men were great stalwarts of the Golf Club and Uralla itself.
Both were staunch St George Dragons supporters and will be sadly missed by everybody who knew them. On behalf of all members I offer sincere condolences to both families as long will they live in our memories. No doubt Tippin and Chicky will meet at the Big Kogarah Oval in the sky.
There was no Golf on Wednesday but the veterans held their competition on Thursday and it was Vicki Holman winning with 39 points. Albert Egli was next best with 37. Evergreen Les Forde was next best with 36.
It would be appropriate for me to remind John (The Cocky Hater) Holman that his time as the best golfer in the Holman family is fast running out as Vicki starts to put together a couple of wins.
A couple of interesting happenings from the last week or so; firstly on Tuesday Lily Faulkner turned up to play her twilight game, got all her gear out of the car, was waiting for her team mates and none arrived. You see Lil’s team play on a Wednesday and she had her days mixed up. Lil it is called OLD TIMERS DIESEASE.
Another incident involves Bruce (The Gnome) McMullen. Bruce a member here for many years and I’m sure has played the course hundreds and hundreds of times, well whilst playing the par 5 first Bruce hit his 3rd shot to the 17th green, leaving himself a very gettable birdie putt on the wrong green. Bruce I don’t know what that is called.
Regular readers will know that one of my favourite subjects is the Big Bird himself, Sparra Taggart and he has been up to his tricks again to earn a mention here. Last Friday Sparra parked his car at the back of the club, had a few refreshing ales and then couldn’t find his car keys so walked home thinking Coleen had them, which of course she did not. After some searching Sparra found them in the ignition, radio blaring and lights on and you guessed it battery flat.
Mike Petrov came to the rescue with jumper leads and got him going again. The last I heard Sparra was still supporting the Golf Club and the car was just idling away out the back.
A very good field played for a club voucher on Saturday and you had to be very good to even win a ball let alone win a voucher. Troy Dawson 43 points counted out Anthony Connors to take the major and minor vouchers. The ball comp went down to 38.
NTP winners were, RAB 3rd Jon Izzard (almost holed it), NAB 5th Bruce the Gnome, 9th Tony Duff, Rob Brown Denture Clinic 15th Tony Park (New Member) and Bridges Finance Tiger Clutterbuck.
Both Troy and Anthony should check their handicap before their game as I believe that Troy might have lost 3 shots and Anthony 5.
