The Wednesday Wackers attracted a good field once again and this time it was Jim Walkinshaw who won the day after a countback with Murray Kennedy (Armidale) both returning 39 points. Neil Free also had 39 but was relegated to 3rd spot, and Dan Riley also 39 was 4th. Duncan Arthur will use the orange ball next week.
NTP winner on the 15th was Tony Duff. When I arrived at golf on Wednesday I thought it must have been cancelled as Les (I’m in a hurry) Forde was nowhere to be seen. He did explain on Thursday why he didn’t make it as normally when there is golf on at Uralla Les will be there.
The other highlight on Wednesday golf was Tiger Clutterbuck having an air swing on the 16th tee. He was certainly letting out some shaft, just failed to make contact that’s all. The bad thing is he refused to shout his playing partners on two counts, once for not reaching the associates tee and the other for an air swing. He certainly was doing a bit of quick talking about sore shoulders and feet slipping.
Thursday’s Veterans Pennants day attracted a field of 105 players with visitors from Walcha, Armidale, Guyra and Glen Innes and I will try and summarize the results as best I can.
Ladies winner was Nancy Prisk, from Patty Hill both Guyra with our own Lil Faulkner finishing 3rd. Men’s A Grade Alan Collins (Glen Innes) with 44 points from Uralla’s John Holman 41 and Paul Redden Guyra 3rd 39 after a countback.
B Grade, Ken Fuller (Guyra) 42 points, Uralla’s John Holthouse 41 and Edward Wright (Armidale) 40 3rd. C Grade winner was Robert Denniss (Walcha) 40 points from James Betts (Guyra) and Ian Stanley (Guyra).
NTP winners were, 3rd Jenny Rogers, 6th Roger Turner, 9th Simon Cross, 11th Lawrie Lewis, 15th Keith Carter and 17th Greg Constantine. It would be remiss of me not to mention John Holthouse as for the second time in a week he broke his age this time shooting an 84 off the stick. Congratulations John well done.
Saturday saw the first round of the championships the joint leaders were Jon Izzard and Charlie Murray, in B Grade Tim Bower lead Mike Petrov and in C Grade Les Forde lead David Ayre. Vicki Barraclough leads the women by 3 shots from Courteney Dade.
In the event of the day Courteney was a clear winner with nett 63 from Corey Rose and Peter Richardson.
The NTP winners were; RAB 3rd Darrell Carson, NAB 6th Deli Faulkner, Rob Brown’s Denture Clinic 15th Courteney Dade and Bridges Finance Vicki Barraclough.
I should mention Deli Faulkner who did not finish the course as after hitting a low shot the ball struck a tree root, came straight back at her hitting her in the face thus ending her day and requiring a hospital trip.
After two days Jon Izzard 154 holds three shot lead over Peter Richardson in the club championships. In B Grade, Jason Barraclough and Josh Clark are equal on 170, and in C Grade evergreen Les Forde 182 holds a 4 shot lead over Don Plummer. In the ladies Vicki Barraclough is making a one horse race of it as she sits 11 shots in front of Mary Dufty after the two rounds.
